Selma E. "Dodie" Werness, 89, Grand Forks, ND, died Saturday, November 27, 2010 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. Selma E. Stenberg was born July 24, 1921 in Buxton, ND the daughter of Emil and Elsie (Sundeen) Stenberg. She was raised and educated in Buxton. Dodie married Jesse Werness on September 21, 1940 in Crookston, MN. They lived in Buxton until 1943 when they moved to Grand Forks. She worked as a cook for the East Grand Forks School System for ten years and also worked for J. C. Penney Co. for 29 years. They also lived briefly in Conrad, MT then moved to Salt Lake City, UT where they lived for 10 years before returning to Buxton. Dodie was well known for her lefse and donut making. She loved time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She made No No Baby dolls for all of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed trips to Virginia to visit her son and his family. Survivors include her sons, Everett (Andree Brooks) Werness, Roanoke, VA, Jerome (Dianne) Werness, Tea, SD, Richard (Elaine) Werness, East Grand Forks, MN; son-in-law, George Anderson, East Grand Forks, MN; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Fern Herbeck, Grand Forks, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Werness in 1996; daughter, Mary Anderson; grandson, Jeremy Werness and by her parents. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, December 3, 2010 in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Buxton, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:30PM until 6:00PM with a 6:00PM Prayer Service in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Buxton. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Immanuel Cemetery near Buxton.
