Norman Sinclair

Norman Sinclair, 89, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 in Valley Memorial Homes Eldercare Center, Grand Forks. Norman was born to Duncan and Grace (Hammett) Sinclair on July 29, 1921 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 1922 he moved with his family to Norfolk, Nebraska. After 10 years in Norfolk, the family moved to Mobridge, South Dakota, where his parents owned a Ben Franklin Variety Store. The depression in the 1930's forced the family to move to Northwood, North Dakota where Norman graduated from high school in 1939. He attended Jamestown College for two years before World War II. He served in the US. Maritime Service in Sheepshead Bay, New York until 1946 before returning to Mayville, North Dakota. He graduated from Mayville State University in 1948 and accepted a teaching position in Carrington, North Dakota for one year. He married Corrine Berg of Mayville in 1949 and the couple began teaching at Langdon, North Dakota High School. He spent his summer vacation in Langdon selling Wear-Ever Aluminum Cookware. After three years in Langdon, the couple moved to Grand Forks. He began teaching mathematics at South Junior High School in 1956 and continued his teaching career there until he retired in 1985. He served as a bailiff in the Grand Forks District Court for several years. Norman and Corrine spent their summers golfing at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Grand Forks and made several winter trips to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for golfing. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Corrine, Grand Forks; three children, Mary (Lee) Sorenson, Pekin, Illinois, Ann (Tom) Rupiper, Hamilton, Montana, and John (Dorann) Sinclair, Stillwater, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Greg, Carol, and Marsha Sorenson, Jean and Lance Rupiper; one great granddaughter, Hailey Rupiper. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Whitney. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 319 S. 5th St., Grand Forks. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Friday, December 3, 2010 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks and for the hour prior to the service in church. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks in the spring. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Grand Forks.
