Dwaine C. (Windy) Broton, 84, of Valley Memorial Homes Grand Forks, formerly of Petersburg, ND, died January 18, 2011. Windy was born March 2, 1926 in Petersburg to James and Olga (Swenseid) Broton. He attended school in Petersburg graduating from high school in 1944. June of 1944 through June of 1946 he was active duty in the United States Navy serving in the Pacific Theater of WW II. October 30, 1949 he married Marjorie Johnson of Petersburg, ND. There they lived the majority of their lives raising three children. Windy worked as a general blacksmith/machinery repair his whole life operating Broton's Shop. He was 3rd generation blacksmith in Petersburg and claimed to be 7th generation blacksmith going back to Norway. He was active in the community life of Petersburg participating in the American Legion, Cemetery Board, School Board, Church Council of the Petersburg Lutheran Church, and Curling Club, Also proudly serving as Petersburg's City Auditor for 41 years and 41 days. Other interests included fishing and avid reading of crime and western adventure books.a Survivors include children Vicki (Paul) Bernier, Albuquerque, NM; Carter (Loni) Broton, Sioux Falls, SD; and Jay Broton, Minneapolis, MN. Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. His wife Marjorie preceded him in death. Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 in Petersburg Lutheran Church, Petersburg, North Dakota Visitation: one hour prior to the service in the church Spring Interment: Petersburg Cemetery
