Clayton L. Edinger, 87, Grand Forks, ND died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at home. Clayton Loyal Edinger was born July 4, 1923 in rural Edmunds, ND the son of John and Mary (Adams) Edinger. Clayton served during World War II from 1943 until 1946 as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corps in China, India, Burma. After the war, he owned the 49er Diner in Michigan City, IN. He moved to Grand Forks where he owned and operated Clayton's Standard on Gateway Drive for 32 years. He also worked for Rochester Armored Car until his retirement. Clayton had a great love of music. He sang bass for the Edinger Brothers Quartet, Redemption Sound Gospel Quartet and for many years sang barbershop music. Clayton was an active member of Grace Baptist Church of Grand Forks for all his life and also a member of the Kiwanis. He married Mildred Bintz on May 13, 1942 in Crookston, MN. She died July 25, 1991. He married Carolee Quirk on June 14, 1997 in Grand Forks. She survives along with daughters, Pamela Wentz, Davis, IL, Deborah (Darrell) Holweger, Maple Grove, MN, Camille (Larry) Heuer, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Michelle Brockman, Michael Wentz, Matthew Wentz, Deziree Klema, Zachary Heuer, Lacey Heuer; step-children, David (Lily) Quirk, Laurinburg, NC, Michael (Debra) Quirk, East Grand Forks; step-grandchildren, Corey Quirk, Katie Boespflug, Joshua Quirk and 9 great grandchildren. Clayton was preceded in death by his 9 brothers and sisters, his first wife of 49 years, Mildred; infant daughter, Melody and a son-in-law, Roy Wentz. A Celebration of Clayton's Life will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Grace Baptist Church, 700 24th Ave S., Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for one hour before the service in the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in the spring.
