Don Gunderson

Oscar Donald "Don" Gunderson of Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully on Monday the 24th of January, 2011 in Grand Forks, ND. Don was born May 24th, 1923 on a farm near Michigan, ND, the son of Oscar and Susie Gunderson. His mother died one week later, which left his dad with three little children. Don grew up and attended school in Michigan ND. In 1946 he worked as a brakeman for the Great Northern Railroad. In 1949 he left the railroad and went to the Grand Forks City Street Department where he worked for 39 ½ years. He also worked 17 years, part time, hauling petroleum for Transport, Inc. Don loved to grow flowers in summer and watch and feed the birds all year long. He also loved to fish and hunt. He went to Canada fishing quite a few times and even to Alaska once. He loved to get in the pickup and drive out in the country to look at the crops and beauty of the countryside. Most of all, Don loved spending time with his family. Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel; by his two sons, Robin (Arlene) Gunderson of Grand Forks, ND and Timothy (Marilyn) Gunderson of Hudson, WI; three grandchildren, Lesley Ann Gunderson of Bismarck, ND, Ryan Timothy (Katie) Gunderson of Woodbury, MN and Adam Timothy Gunderson of Menomonie, WI; and twin great granddaughters, Elise Joy and Evangeline Hope Gunderson, born to Ryan and Katie on Nov. 27, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 28, 2011 in Sharon Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks, ND.
