Ruth Hoverson

February 12, 1912 — February 28, 2011

Ruth E. Hoverson, 99, Grand Forks and formerly of Manvel, ND died Monday, February 28, 2011 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare of Grand Forks. Ruth Eva Hart was born February 12, 1912 in Oakville Township of Grand Forks County, North Dakota, the daughter of Miles and Lizzie (Shaper) Hart. She was raised and educated in rural Manvel, ND. In 1916, the family moved to the Campbell farm (now part of the Grand Forks Myra Museum), where they lived and farmed for the next four years. Ruth married Bernie Hoverson on May 13, 1950 in Grand Forks. They lived near Manvel, ND. Bernie died on January 3, 1971. Ruth was happiest living and working hard on the farm. She chopped wood, milked cows, hauled water from a well and cooked on a woodstove. She liked tending to her huge garden and canning what she had grown. She was an excellent quilter and made numerous quilts for family members and others. Ruth was always willing to help someone in need and people often returned the favors to her. She loved all animals but was especially fond of dogs. Survivors include several nieces and nephews in the area Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie; brothers, George, Otto, Eddie, Raymond, Bert, Earl, Glenn and Francis, sisters, Ethel, Lucile, and Hazel.
