Ray Haltli

June 24, 1930 — March 9, 2011

Ray Haltli passed away on March 9, 2011, at the age of 80 in the Mayville Care Center, Mayville, North Dakota, with his wife and four children by his side. Ray Haltli was born June 24, 1930, in a log cabin in Clearbrook, MN, the son of Nellie (Wolden) and Lars Haltli. Ray's mother passed away when he was eighteen months old and so he was raised by Nellie's sister, Inga (Wolden) Renden, on a farm near Mayville, ND. He attended school near Blanchard, ND. His youthful, adventurous nature carried with him throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling, flying, motorcycling, camping and always taking a different route home because of the potential adventure. Ray enjoyed the outdoors and was always active in hunting and fishing. He always enjoyed the companionship of his dog. This adventuresome nature was passed on to his children and grandchildren. Ray has 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren. Ray entered the National Guard in 1950, married Kay, January 1, 1951, and then went to serve in the Korean War. He was a life member of the DAV, VFW and served as the Chaplain of the Cooties. Ray worked as an electrician in Grand Forks, ND, for 40 years. Ray held a master electrician license and has been a member of the IBEW Local 1426 for fifty-five years. He was a life member of North American Hunting Club, and life member of the NRA. Ray Haltli was preceded in passing by his father, mother, brother, Kermit (in WWII) and sister, Gladyce. He is survived by his wife Kathryn (Johnson) of 60 wonderful years of marriage, and is also survived by a brother, Norris (Domoiselle) of Biloxi, MS; four (4) children Ronald (Nancy) of Eden, UT, Susan (Orrin Johnson) of Finley, ND, Nancy (Mike Licari) of Moose Lake, MN, and Russ of Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services: 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2011, at Walle Lutheran Church of Rural Thompson, ND. Visitation: Sunday, March 13, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment: Walle Lutheran Church Cemetery.
