Jack Carter

May 23, 1936 — May 23, 2011

Jack R. Carter was born on May 23, 1936 at Garden City, SD, to Woodford and Mabel (Ferdig) Carter, and went home to be with the Lord on his 75th birthday at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by his family. After serving in the US Air Force from 1954 - 1957, he worked as a driver on road construction. He married Carol Wubbena from De Smet, SD, on April 15, 1962. They lived in various places doing construction work until they came to Grand Forks, ND in 1963 for missile site construction, and made their home here. He held many driving positions over the years including Purolator Courier, Terra and Wilbur-Ellis. He was also employed by Doss Aviation. After their retirement in 1999, they spent winters in Texas until April 2010 when his declining health prevented them from returning to Texas this past winter. His first love was for the Lord, and he never missed an opportunity to tell others about Him. His desire was for everyone to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. His second love was for his family and activities that involved them. Grateful for having shared their lives with him are his wife, Carol; one son, Jack "Arlin" (Tracey) Carter, Milan, MN; two daughters, Linda (Bill) Galumbus, Emerado, ND; and Barbara (Fred "Skip") Russell, Grand Forks, ND; eight Grandchildren - Nathan and Eric Carter, Nicholas, Melissa and Lisa Galumbus, and Joshua, Michael and Bethany Russell; two brothers, Sam, West Warwick, RI; and Lyle, Watertown, SD; three sisters, Arlene Harty, De Smet, SD; Janet (Paul) Needham, Moorhead, MN; and Joyce (Mernie) Olson, Langford, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leonard, Bob and Jim; and sisters Violet Carter and Edna Schmidt. Visitation: will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 and one hour prior to the funeral in the funeral home. Interment: will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
