Nancy Lee VanLooy

Nancy L. VanLooy, 62, of Grand Forks, passed away May 29, 2011 at home and surrounded by her family. Nancy was born July 30, 1948, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Mann) Schlatter in Wauseon, Ohio. She graduated in 1966 from Delta High School in Delta, OH. She attended Adrian College in Adrian, MI, where she received a BA in 1970. Nancy married James William VanLooy July 25, 1970, in Archibold, OH. Early in their marriage Nancy worked as an Elementary School Teacher in Dundee, MI. She moved to Grand Forks with her husband in 1977. Nancy was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Grand Forks, the United Methodist Women, and Sarah-Faith Circle. She received the UMW "Jewel of a Woman" award. Nancy was also the President of the Medical Auxiliary. She actively participated and helped to lead Star Givers, Mission Dinner, Valentines for Shut In's, Church Bazaar, taught Sunday School for several years, served on various church committees and served as the Viking Elementary Picture Lady. Nancy enjoyed hiking, walking, tent camping, gardening, listening to music, traveling and sightseeing, and loved to visit her children and grandchildren and would help them in any way she could. Nancy is survived by her husband, Dr. James VanLooy of Grand Forks; daughter, Amy (Michael) Larrabee of Yorktown, IN; sons, James William (Drenda) VanLooy Jr. of Eagle, ID, Jeffrey (Brooke) VanLooy of Grand Forks, brothers, Harold (Chris) Schlatter of Wauseon, OH, and James (Connie) Schlatter of Delta, OH; sisters, Carol (Ronald) Wacker of Centennial, CO, Janet (Denny)Barlow of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren, Katie, Holly, James III, Abigail and Nora. She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Jason Schlatter. **In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or the Altru Foundation 1200 S. Columbia Rd. Grand Forks, ND 58201. Memorial Services: Friday, June 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Wesley United Methodist Church, 1600 4th Ave. North, Grand Forks. Visitation: 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue one hour before the service in the church. Inurnment: Zion Methodist Cemetery in Delta, Ohio
