Shirley Y. Orstad, 81, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in Valley Memorial Homes Eldercare Center, surrounded by family. Shirley Yvonne Hagen was born to Louis and Ella (Ackerland) Hagen on October 3, 1929 at Park River, North Dakota. She was raised and educated at Park River. Shirley and Elroy Orstad were united in marriage on October 27, 1948 at Park River, North Dakota. She had been employed in the University of North Dakota Bursars Office and also Montgomery Wards in Grand Forks. Through the years they were able to travel together extensively and were able to see many parts of the world. After retirement, Shirley and Elroy enjoyed spending their winter months at their home in Mesa, AZ and summers at their cabin at Maple Lake. Shirley enjoyed cooking, decorating and entertaining her family and friends. She had a close relationship with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include: a daughter, Cindy (Jerry) Cochran, Grand Forks; a son, Terry (Renae) Orstad, Bismarck, North Dakota; grandchildren, Alyson (David) Leighton, Grand Forks, Mitch (Jamie) Orstad, Bismarck, ND, Beth Orstad (Marty Craig), Breckenridge, CO, Garrett Cochran, Ft. Wayne, IN, and Cami Cochran, Ciudad Real, Spain; great-grandchildren, Kade and Andrew Orstad, Noelle and Gabriel Leighton; brothers, Don Hagen, Prescott, AZ, Dennis (Joy) Hagen, Ocala, FL, Gene (Rosalie) Hagen, Grafton, ND; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Maier, Park River, ND, Lois King, Albequerque, NM, Mae Hagen, Washington, and Lydia Orstad, Minneapolis, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elroy; and a brother, Ron Hagen. Memorial Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St., Grand Forks. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Thursday, June 9, 2011 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks and one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: will be at a later date in St. Peter's Cemetery, Rural Adams, North Dakota. Memorials: are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church
