Doris Mae Gunderson

Doris Mae Gunderson, 83, of Grand Forks, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks after suffering with A.L.S. Doris was born on June 30, 1927 to Bill & Iva Peterson who farmed west of Larimore, ND. She was baptized in Bethel Lutheran Church and moved to Larimore during the 3rd grade. She joined and was confirmed in Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She graduated from Larimore High School in 1945 and worked at several jobs in Larimore before she moved to Grand Forks. Doris worked for many years in the accounting dept. of the GF Herald. In 1955, Doris married Lloyd Orrin Craft and they moved to Lakota, ND and became members of the Lakota Lutheran Church. They purchased and operated a grocery store in Lakota. Their son Kevin was born in 1957. Orrin died in 1989. Doris was a bookkeeper for the Standard Oil Station for several years. She was active in the Nelkota Homemakers Club and served on many church circle activities including being the wedding coordinator. In 2006, Doris married her high school classmate Oben Gunderson and she moved back to Grand Forks and became a member of Sharon Lutheran Church. Doris is survived by her husband, Oben; son, Kevin (Mona) Craft; sisters, Pam (Darrell) Wood and Delphine Gilderhus; grandsons, Ryan (Stacy) Slapnicka, Chad (Melissa) Slapnicka; great-grandchildren, Tristen, Peyton, Carter, Matsen and Holden; Oben's children, Brad (Nadine) Gunderson, Cathi Gunderson and Diane Wilkie and their children, Kjerstin (Jonah) Foster, Jenny Gunderson, Danielle and Ashley Wilkie; a niece and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Lloyd Orrin. FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 Sharon Lutheran Church 1720 S. 20th St. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: Sunday, June 19, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. INTERMENT: Lakota City Cemetery, Lakota, ND.
