Bernard G. Kresel, 79, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011 at his home in Grand Forks. Bernard G. Kresel , 79, Grand Forks, N.D. passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011 at his home. Bernard was born March 17, 1932 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Anton and Mary (Kuzel) Kresel. Bernie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War 1952-1954. He married Shirley McDonald on February 12, 1955 in Grand Forks, ND. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage and were blessed with five children. Bernie retired in 1993 after 44 years at Wilcox & Malm. He also worked in the insurance field for several years. He and Shirley enjoyed traveling in their motor home and gathering new friends along the way. Bernie enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved golfing, fishing, and a good joke. He was the past Commander and a life member of the VFW #1874, current member of the American Legion Post #157, and a life member of Assiniboia Unit 283, Winnipeg Canada. Bernie is survived by his wife Shirley, daughters Cindy Samson, Lorrie (Bill) Zaharia, Owatonna, MN; Kathy (Kevin) Grosz; Karen (John) Harrie; son David Kresel. 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sisters Dorothy Kuntz; Edna Ellenson; Lucy Schumacher Kennewick, WA; Cora Jean(Dan) Pruiett, Kennewick WA; brother Tony Kresel, Brooklyn Center MN; and sister in law Carol Kresel. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Al and Lyle and son-in-law Tom Samson. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 216 Belmont Rd. in Grand Forks. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service Friday, July 8, 2011 at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and one hour prior to the Funeral Mass at the church. Military Funeral Honors: N.D. Army National Guard and Grand Forks VFW Post # 1874 and East Grand Forks American Legion Post #157.
