Duane N. Oss

Duane Oss, 62, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 at Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks, ND with his family by his side after an extended battle with Huntington's Disease. Duane Nelson Oss was born on August 20, 1948, the son of Lowell and Arlene (Nelson) Oss in Fargo, ND. He grew up in Breckenridge, MN where he graduated from high school in 1966. He attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton for one year. On March 23, 1967, he married Marsha Heath, his high school sweetheart, and they moved to Detroit, MI where he worked for General Motors and attended Wayne State University. In 1969, the family moved to Moorhead, MN where Duane graduated from Moorhead State University in 1971. He then attended graduate school at the University of North Dakota. He worked for several years as a salesman for Quality Meats and Seafood, West Fargo, ND and was transferred back to Grand Forks in 1983. As his disease progressed, Duane held various jobs in the area. Throughout his entire life, Duane thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Marsha; four sons, Darrin Oss, Ryan Oss, Matthew (Lasha) Oss, and Cody Oss, all of Grand Forks; a daughter, Amber Rindy, San Jose, CA; grandsons, Alex Patnaude, Navy Oss, Oakley Oss; brothers, David (Roberta) Oss, Shepherd, MT, Darwin (Carol) Oss, Fargo, ND, Dwight (Patricia) Oss, New London, MN, Drew (Cindy) Oss, Kent, MN; sister, Diane (Dennis) Johnson, Wahpeton, ND; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Arlene Oss, and his brother, Douglas. A memorial service will be Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 10:30 AM in St. Marks Lutheran Church, 715 24th Ave. South, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church.
