Curtis Lee Knudson, 67, of Grand Forks, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Parkwood Place in Grand Forks. Curtis was born January 2, 1944 in Grand Forks. He attended schools in Grand Forks, Fargo, St. Paul, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, MN. Curtis attended colleges at St. Olaf, Bemidji State, Augsburg, and most recently at UND where he received a Masters and PhD in Chemistry. Curtis married Karol-lyn M. Howe in 1969 in Minneapolis, MN. Curtis worked as Senior Research Associate/Principal Scientist in Fuels and Process Chemistry at the Energy & Environmental Research Center in Grand Forks. He authored and co-authored over 70 publications and holds several patents on coal conversion processes. Curtis enjoyed home and cottage construction projects, reading, family reunions, and spending time with his family. After retirement he enjoyed participating in the family business, Art and Learn. He also enjoyed spending time building on the family lake property on Upper Cormorant Lake. Curtis is survived by his wife, Karol-lyn; sons, Carl Todd Knudson and Brant Lang Knudson; siblings, Jean, Diane and Edward; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. MEMORIAL SERVICES: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011 at University Lutheran Church 2122 University Ave. of Grand Forks.
