George Whitlow Cox passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 5:30 a.m. after a long and courageous battle with cancer. George W. Cox was born on May 2, 1947 in Grafton, ND, the son of William and Mildred (Whitlow) Cox. He grew up in Grafton, ND, graduating from Grafton High School in 1965. George attended Mayville State College for a short time prior to enlisting in the United States Army on April 13, 1966 and served his country until April 2, 1968. He returned to Mayville State College graduating in 1971. George married Diane Rudnik on June 2, 1969 at Grafton, ND. He taught school in Edmore and Devils Lake, ND. George worked as a financial manager to the Devils Lake Public Schools prior to becoming a trust officer at Ramsey Bank in Devils Lake. In 1995 George became a trust officer for Bremer Bank in Grand Forks, retiring in 2001. After retiring from the banking business, George worked for UND Foundation and Valley Memorial Homes. George was a member of Edmore and Devils Lake Curling Club, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Zion United Methodist Church. He was active in numerous community organizations in Devils Lake and Grand Forks. George enjoyed playing golf, curling, painting, reading, and attending UND sporting events, especially hockey. George is survived by his wife, Diane; son, Chaun (Kate) Cox, North Mankato, MN; two grandsons, Ethan and Brodie Cox; brothers, Kenneth (Sharon) Cox, Apache Junction, AZ, James Cox , Peoria, AZ; brothers-in-law, Harley (Rose Marie) Raumin, Steve (Mary) Rudnik; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Bill) Bruers, Angeline Berger; mother-in-law, Adelaide Dvorak; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Cox; sister, Alice (Cox) Raumin; sister-in-law, Aldora Cox; father-in-law, Steve Rudnik; and step-father-in-law, Henry Dvorak. Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 in Zion United Methodist Church, 1001 24th Ave South, Grand Forks. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2011 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and one hour prior to the service in the church.
