John Francis Weigel

John "Jack" Francis Weigel, 76, of Grand Forks, ND died Monday, August 9, 2011 in his home. John F. Weigel was born on June 29, 1935 in Great Bend, Kansas the son of Raymond and Harriet (McKenna) Weigel. He grew up and attended school in Kansas and graduated from UND. Jack married Edith Shepard on May 19, 1967. He was enlisted in the U. S. Navy and then the U.S. Air Force in 1953 until retiring in 1973. In retirement Jack worked for the UND Dept. of Energy, Bergstrom Electric and American Woods. Jack enjoyed spending time with his son John at their lake place. He also enjoyed woodworking in his wood shop. Jack could fix almost anything. He will be greatly missed. Jack is survived by: Son: John I. Weigel - Grand Forks Sisters: Jill (Paul) Johnston - Kansas Jane (John) Watkins - Kansas Sister-in-laws: Sr. Rachel Shepard - Los Angeles, CA Susan Bickert - East Lansing, MI Many Nieces, Nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Edith in 2005. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Northeast Human Service Center, SMI Dept., 151 South 4th St. Suite 401, Grand Forks, ND 58201. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 9:00 AM in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 6 PM with a vigil service at 5PM in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
