Burdell Yon

Burdell I. Yon, 95, Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Forest River, ND died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in Edgewood Vista, East Grand Forks, MN. Burdell Irene Swensrud was born October 15, 1915 in Edinburg, ND the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Hommeland) Swensrud. She was raised and educated at Edinburg. Burdell worked at a café in Forest River, ND. It was there that she met Walter Yon. They were married May 26, 1934 in Grand Forks. They lived, farmed and raised their family near Forest River. Walter died on November 27, 1988. Burdell later moved to Grand Forks. She also lived in Larimore, but spent some of the summer months on the farm at Forest River. Burdell loved playing cards. She was an excellent cook, especially noted for her delicious buns and brownies. She was a very caring and loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend Survivors include her daughters, Lillian (Graydon) Pladson, Wadena, MN, Marlene (Dale) Korynta, Forest River, ND and Bonnie (Dennis) Carroll, Grand Forks, ND; sons, Peter Yon, Grand Forks and Tom (Vivian) Yon, Forest River, ND. Burdell is also survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and some very good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; one sister; four brothers; an infant grandchild, Scott; daughters-in-law, Margaret and Maxine.
