John Stanley Durkin III

Jesus says, "Do not be worried and upset, believe in God and believe also in me. There are many rooms in my Father's house, and I am going to prepare a place for you." -John 14:1-2 John Durkin III, age 52, of Grand Forks went home with our Creator on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, with his loving family by his side. John Stanley Durkin III was born September 23, 1958 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of John and Eleanor (Kowalczik) Durkin. He was baptized, confirmed, attended school, and church at St. Mary's in Grand Forks. John loved the sport of Hockey and played for a Grand Forks team in his younger days. On May 13, 1989, John married his long time love, Linda Ydstie. They recently celebrated their 22nd Anniversary. On July 2, 1991 their first child, Megan was born and on October 11, 1993 their son, John was born. John was a devoted husband and dad. He loved his family so much , he centered his life around them. He shared their love in hockey and helped both Megan and John continued to play and travel to all their hockey games. American Crystal Sugar, EGF, MN was his place of employment for 35 years. He greatly appreciated the friendships he had with his coworkers there. Don Cash was especially dear to him. John will be deeply missed by his wife Linda, daughter Megan (Anthony), Grand Forks, son, John, Grand Forks, his parents, John and Eleanor Durkin, Grand Forks, his sisters, Carol (Jon) Trott, Chicago, Ill, Marilyn Schuman, Grand Forks, Shirley (Wayne) Hooey, Lakota, ND, Karen (Rick) Woodard, Duluth, MN , his mother in law Marilyn Ydstie, Grand Forks, his brother in law Brad (Julie) Ydstie, Hillsboro, ND, his special nephew Chris (Michelle) Koon, Grand Forks who took such great care of him while he was so ill, and many other nieces and nephews, and extended family. John was preceded in death by his older brother Ronnie Durkin, sister, Jane Paulson, father in law, Paul Ydstie, and his grandparents. FUNERAL SERVICES: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church 216 Belmont Rd. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: Tuesday, September 20, 5:00-6:30 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND INTERMENT: Calvary Catholic Cemetery South, Grand Forks, ND.
