Russell Van Hoof

Russell H. Van Hoof, 88, Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Emerado, ND died Sunday, September 18, 2011 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare in Grand Forks. Russell was born September 22, 1922 in Emerado, ND, the son of Ralph and Hattie (Boumeester) Van Hoof. He was raised and educated in Emerado, graduating from Emerado High School in 1941. He married Bernice McGrath on December 27, 1952 in Larimore, ND. Russell worked for many years at Emerado Farmers Elevator. He later worked as a custodian and school bus driver for Emerado Elementary School, retiring in 1988. He also served as Mayor of Emerado. Russell enjoyed baseball and was a long-time fan of the Minnesota Twins. He liked to visit with everyone and share treats, especially Chippers from Widman's Candy Shop. Survivors include his children, Rosemary (Donald) Underwood, Grand Forks, ND and Rodney Van Hoof, Inver Grove Heights, MN; grandchildren, Christopher Underwood, Fargo, ND and Michael Underwood, Grand Forks; brother, Donald Van Hoff, Grand Forks along with several nieces and nephews. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene Bosard; and brother, Harold Van Hoof. Russell's family is very appreciative of the care he was given by the staff of Tufte Manor and Valley Memorial Home Eldercare. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011 in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery of Larimore, ND.
