Margaret Keifenheim

Margaret (Troumbly) Keifenheim, 99, died on September 24, 2011 at 4000 Valley Square, Woodside Village, surrounded by her family. Margaret was born on March 13, 1912 to Edmond and Winifred (Cadieux) Troumbly in Red Lake Falls, MN. She grew up there, and graduated from Lafayette High School. She played trumpet in the school band with her future husband, Vern C. Keifenheim. They were married June 10, 1939 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Margaret trained to be an elementary teacher at Moorhead State Teachers College and taught primary grades at a rural school in Terrebonne, MN, where her grandparents were pioneer settlers. Margaret was very proud of her success in teaching reading to her students. In later years she taught her own children, and then her grandchildren to read. She and her husband first made their home in Thief River Falls, MN, then Roseau, MN, before moving in 1952 to Grand Forks with their four children. Vern died in 1976. Margaret worked as an interviewer for the University of Chicago's National Opinion Research Center (NORC). Margaret was active in her parish church first at St. Michael's and then Holy Family Catholic Church. She served as Choir Director at Holy Family for many years. She had a beautiful voice. Margaret was a life-long member and Past Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Marquette #677. Margaret was a loving mother and grandmother. She greatly enjoyed providing festive holiday gatherings for her family. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Thomas) Hill, Grand Forks, and Jill (Richard) Nycz, Sandwich, MA, a son, Jack Keifenheim, Merritt Island, FL, and grandchildren, Andrew Hill, Minneapolis, Katie (Maxime) Gallant, Indianapolis, and Erik Nycz, Boston, and a sister-in-law, Marion Keifenheim, Red Lake Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter Margaret (Peggy) Keifenheim, her sisters Elvia, Vivian, Godelyn, Bernice, and Theonilla Troumbly, Muriel Moudry, and an infant brother Joseph Troumbly. Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church 1018 18th Ave. S. in Grand Forks. Visitation: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment: Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Grand Forks.
