Josephine "Jo" Lieberg (Gese), 91, Bemidji, MN, and formerly of Mekinock, ND, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at her home following a long battle with cancer. "Jo" was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on March 25, 1920 to Anthony and Dora (Dorscher) Gese. Jo married Leslie Lieberg on September 19, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the family farm near Mekinock. She was a homemaker and "stay at home Mother". After raising her family, she worked for ARC in Grand Forks until her retirement in the mid-1990's. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband, gardening, baking, sewing, and arts and crafts. In her later years she enjoyed reading and bingo. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, David (Sandy) Hawthorne, Grand Forks, Lawrence (Anne) Hawthorne, Lansing, Michigan, Richard (Diane) Lieberg, Mekinock, North Dakota, and Kathleen (Raymond) Finney, Bemidji, Minnesota; sisters, Patricia (Terrence) Johnson, and Madonna Hawthorne, both of North St. Paul, Minnesota; brother Raymond Gese of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leslie Lieberg on February 4, 2004; parents, "Tony" and Dora Gese; sisters, Mary and Dorothy Gese; brothers Charles Gese, Leo Gese, Donald Gese, and William Gese. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 in St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Manvel, ND, with Father Bernie Schneider officiating. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church. Interment: in St. Timothy's Cemetery following the service.
