Glen A. Gransberg, 75, Grand Forks, ND, died Thursday, October 13, 2011 in his home. Glen was born October 3, 1936 in Grand Forks, the son of Alvin and Hazel (Leet) Gransberg. He was baptized at United Lutheran Church and confirmed at North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Leeds. He was raised on his maternal grandparents homestead in Towner County. He graduated from Leeds High School in 1955 and went on to attend the University of North Dakota graduating in 1959 with a BA and a MA in 1961. At UND, Glen was an active member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He also spent several years in graduate studies at the University of Iowa. Glen taught Economics at the University of Minnesota, Morris in 1961-62 then at UND from 1967-1969. Glen took over the family farm when his brother Leigh was killed in 1965. In 1988 Glen married Janice Van Duyn. They divided their time between the farm and their vacation home in Big Sky, Montana. Glen retired from farming in 1994 and thereafter they made their home in Grand Forks. Glen loved to downhill ski race and also enjoyed golfing and bicycling. He is survived by his wife, Janice; two stepsons, Gregory (Christine), Virginia, MN and Rodney Bolstad, Hillsboro, ND; 5 step grandsons; and sister, Gloria (Magne Lostad) Gransberg, Trysil, Norway. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leigh.
