Evelyn Hovet, 96, Grand Forks, died Tuesday evening, November 22, 2011 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Evelyn, the daughter of Severin Rogenes and Clara Sveen was born July 19, 1915 at Rural Buxton, North Dakota. She was raised by her mother and uncles in a farm in that area. She was baptized and confirmed in the local Grue Lutheran Church. She attended country school and later enrolled in the Buxton High School, graduating in 1934. After graduation she moved to Grand Forks and enrolled in Aaker's Business College. Evelyn was united in marriage to Kermit Hovet on April 19, 1937. They made their home in Grand Forks, and in May 9, 1939 were blessed with their daughter and only child Lavonne. She has been a lifelong member of United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks where she was active in teaching Sunday school and several ladies activities. She was a lifetime member of Sons of Norway where she enjoyed speaking Norwegian with many of the other members. She loved to travel with her husband Kermit and has a box full of souvenir spoons from all around the states. She loved to go to Red Lake, Minnesota where her family had a cabin. She enjoyed fishing, swimming, visiting, playing cards and entertaining guests. Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Lavonne (Orvis) Bergman, Grand Forks; two granddaughters, Kari Bergman, Denver, CO, and Kristi Lafferty, Grand Forks; 5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Kermit. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m Saturday, November 26, 2011 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Intement: will be in Hyllestad Cemetery, Rural Buxton, North Dakota. Memorials: are preferred to United Lutheran Church.
