Kathryn Heyd

August 27, 1944 — December 4, 2011

Kathryn Mae (Stover) Heyd, 67, Grand Forks, ND, died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family. Kathryn Mae Stover was born August 27, 1944 in Williston, ND, the daughter of Ralph and Lillian (Palmerson) Stover. Kathy lost her father at age 7 and later, the Lord sent her a new dad, Olaf Tvenge, whom she loved dearly. Kathy spent her early years in Trout Creek, MT and loved the mountains. She started school in Trout Creek and continued her education in Minot, ND. Her family moved to Grand Forks in her Sophomore year of high school and she graduated from Central High School in 1962. She took many computer classes in her life and was very good at office management. Kathy married DuWayne Heyd in August of 1962 and they became lifelong partners in everything they did. She became his inspiration and guide in life and he adored her with all his heart. They started Heyd Construction in 1972 and Kathy was the office manager until her death. She owned and operated Heyd Lawn Ornaments for many years until her failing health caused her to sell that business. During her life her hobbies included raising Arabian Horses, sharing music ventures with her husband, fishing, BINGO, and especially doing things with her family like shopping with her daughter, Susan Wixo and her granddaughter, Abigail. Kathy and DuWayne were blessed with three children, Susan (Wes) Wixo, Steven (Pam) Heyd and Scott (Chris) Heyd; 5 grandchildren, Mike Sorum, Abigail Sorum, Ashley Heyd, Alex Heyd and Madison Heyd. She loved doing things with her family and was thrilled when they stopped by. The grandchildren called her "Grams" and she loved them so. Kathy is also survived by her siblings, Philip (Grace) Stover, Trout Creek, MT, Mike (Debbie) Tvenge, Delta Junction, AK, Mark (Jackie) Tvenge, Eagle River, AK and Mary Tvenge, Boulder, CO. Kathy suffered from malnutrition for many years and undetected liver cancer finally took her from us. She fought bravely to remain in the beautiful world she loved so and finally was ready for her heavenly home. Kathy thanks all the staff at Altru Hospital and clinic, the wonderful people at the Altru Clinic Pharmacy and especially Dr. Brosseau for taking such good care of her. Altru Hospice made her final days much more comfortable. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, December 9, 2011 in Redeemer Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks, ND.
