Gerald "Sonny" Richot, 74, Grand Forks, passed away Wednesday December 7, 2011 in Altru hospital. Gerald was born on June 15, 1937 in Walhalla, ND to Florence and Charles Richot. After the death of his father, Florence and Gerald moved to Grand Forks. Gerald attended school at Sacred Heart School in East Grand Forks. He then enlisted in the United States Army in 1954, serving 28 months overseas, and received his honorable discharge in 1957. Gerald married Lou Ann Holmen on September 16, 1957 in Grand Forks, where they made their home. Gerald worked on area bridges for Swingen Construction. He then started working for the Grand Forks Park District in 1964, retiring after 35 years as Park Foreman. Gerald like his work at the Park District, and enjoyed many years at Leech Lake, fishing and boating. He also enjoyed his yard work, reading his western books and being with his family, grandchildren, and his great grandchildren who he loved dearly. Gerald is survived by his loving wife Lou Ann, sons; Guy Richot, Grand Forks, Gerry Richot, Grand Forks, daughter; Jolene (Keith) Soper, Lincoln, AR, grandchildren; Jessica (Christian) Fierro, San Antonio, TX, Travis Soper, Oklahoma City, OK, Branden Varnson Richot, Grand Forks, Christopher Richot, Grand Forks, Michelle Mika, California, great grandchildren; Laci Ray and Lena Dawn Fierro, San Antonio, TX. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Tiny Brokken, grandparents, and sister Dolly, Dells, OR. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks. Visitation: Friday, December 9, 2011 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service all at Amundson Funeral Home. Interment and Military Honors: Memorial Park North, Grand Forks. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Altru Cancer Center, Grand Forks.
