James E. Dunn, 73, Grand Forks, died Friday, December 9, 2011 at home. James Eliott Dunn was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on December 21, 1937 to James L. and Fern E. (Eliott) Dunn. He attended schools in Grand Forks, graduating from Central High School. He served in the US Navy from March 14, 1955 until he was honorably discharged on December 4, 1958. James Dunn and Sandra Nelson were united in marriage on April 3, 1959 in Grand Forks. He was employed by N.S.P in Grand Forks from 1962 until he retired on July 31, 1996. He enjoyed hunting with his work friends at their hunting shack on Devils Lake, North Dakota, and fishing on a launch at Lake of the Woods, Minnesota that he owned together with a group of friends. James was a member of the Blue Line Club and enjoyed volunteering his time to assist with the building of the East Grand Forks Civic Center. He enjoyed going to high school hockey games. In 1988 Jim and Sandra purchased a lake home on Potato Lake near Park Rapids, Minnesota where he enjoyed his hobby of gardening. He enjoyed lake activities with family, friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife, Sandra "Jo" Dunn, Grand Forks; children, Pamela (Peter) Olson, East Grand Forks, MN, Patrick Dunn, Grand Forks, Paula (Daniel) Curran, Moorhead, MN, Peggy (Stuart) Mattson, East Grand Forks, MN, Peter (Sherry) Dunn, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Casey (Jenny) Olson, Michael (Amy) OIson, Jeff Olson, Katie (David) Widger, Courtney Curran, Ashley Senger, Alex Larson, Dixon Dunn; 6 great-grandchildren, Kendra, Blake, Abby, Emma, Maddie, and Brooks; brother, Dennis (Kathleen) Dunn, East Grand Forks, MN; a sister, Julie (James) Eastman, Eden Prairie, MN; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials: the family prefers memorials to United Lutheran Church or Altru Hospice.
