Zella Pauline Trezona Green Zella Pauline Trezona Green, 91, of Grand Forks, died on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center. Pauline was born on May 26, 1920 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Lee R. & Zella (Chamberlain) Trezona. She grew up in several small towns in Iowa, graduating from high school in Brandon, IA. She earned her BA in English from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA and her Masters in Christian Education from Boston University in Boston, MA. She met J. Carleton Green there where he was in seminary at Boston University. They were married on June 10, 1943 in the Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, IA by Pauline's step-father, W. Glenn Rowley, who was pastor there. Pauline stayed with her parents in Mt. Vernon, IA and with Carleton's parents in Hollywood, CA while he was in the navy, serving as a chaplain at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and on an attack transport ship in the South Pacific in World War II. When Carleton's tour of duty was completed, they went to Santa Maria, CA to serve a Methodist church there - then also served churches in West Chelmsford, MA and Ames and Sprout Brook, NY while Carleton completed his doctoral studies. They moved to Sioux City, IA where Carleton was director of religious activities at Morningside College. They moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1957 where Carleton was an associate professor of religion at Wesley College and the University of North Dakota. They returned to the parish ministry in 1970 with the Yoke Parish of Larimore, Emerado and Arvilla, ND. They returned to Grand Forks in 1977 where Carleton served as associate pastor at Wesley United Methodist until retiring in 1980. Pauline worked at the University of North Dakota in the transportation and safety offices from 1978 - 1985. Pauline was active in all the churches she and Carleton served - playing organ as needed, singing in the choir, serving in the women's society. She was a long-time member of PEO and enjoyed various activities with Carleton - they participated in many Elderhostel trips through the years. Pauline is survived by her two daughters, Janet (Bill) Jones of Eyota, MN and Sue Stoa of Grand Forks; two grandsons, Chad Goetz of Liverpool, NY and Craig Goetz of Phoenix, AZ; step-sister, Betty Rowley, of Boulder, CO, nephew, Skip Green, of Mt. Prospect, IL, nephew Kevin Wissink and niece, Julie Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carleton, her parents and her step-sister, Barb Wissink. Memorials are suggested to Wesley United Methodist Church in Grand Forks. Funeral services will be at 10:30 on Wednesday, December 14 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1600 4th Ave. North, Grand Forks. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 13, beginning at 5:00, with a prayer service at 6:30 at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks. Interment will be at the Arvilla Cemetery.
