Mildred E. Kennedy, 92, Grand Forks, ND died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in Valley Memorial Home Woodside Village. Mildred Etta Jackson was born September 9, 1919 in Grand Forks, ND. She was the sixth child of eight children born to Carl and Margaret Jackson. She grew up in Grand Forks and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. In July 1941 she traveled to Cheyenne, Wyoming with three friends and married Quentin D. Kennedy, who was stationed there in the U.S. Army. After Quentin's discharge, they made their home in Grand Forks and raised a family, five sons and one daughter - Dennis, Robert, Lynn, Lawrence, Kenneth, and Kathleen. When her youngest started school, Mildred began working outside the home as a lunch lady at Central High School. Her summers were spent camping with family and friends from the East coast to the West coast and Canada. Mildred kept a very detailed journal of all their travels. Children and grandchildren, after church on Sundays, looked forward to "pancakes" at Grandma's house. She let her grandchildren help her make the pancakes, a memory to be treasured by all. Upon retirement, Quentin and Mildred spent their winters for twenty-seven years "in the same spot" at the Snow to Sun Park in Weslaco, Texas . Mildred was a voracious reader, often reading more than one book at a time. Mildred was known as "Millie" by friends, "Honey" by family, and "Mom" by her children. Left mourning her passing are four sons, Robert (Marlys) of Manvel, ND; Lynn (Michelle) of Grand Forks; Lawrence of Grand Forks, Kenneth of Grand Forks; one daughter, Kathleen McBeth (Ronald) of Wahpeton, ND. Grandchildren are Kristy (Chad) Sattler of Grand Forks, Steven Kennedy of Manvel, Dennis and Edward Kennedy of Grand Forks; Sean, Cameron, and Laura Kennedy of Ojai, CA; Brittney Kennedy of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kelly and Sarah Kennedy of Grand Forks; Ashleigh McBeth of New York City , Jeff McBeth of Casper, WY. Mildred was preceded in death in 2008 by her husband of sixty-seven years, Quentin, and by a son, Dennis in 1997. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in Trinity Lutheran Church of Manvel, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium of Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks.
