Merlyn J. Sussex, 87, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Merlyn was born January 1, 1925 in Hope, ND to James and Bessie Sussex. He graduated from Hope High School in 1943 and attended the University of North Dakota. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1943 and served during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1946. Merlyn worked for Lockheed Aeronautics in Burbank, CA. Merlyn married Shirley Orn of Pickert, ND in 1957. He worked at Valley Motors and Home of Economy in Grand Forks where he was the manager/salesman of the tire department, retiring after 36 years. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and traveling. Merlyn was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Merlyn is survived by his wife, Shirley of Grand Forks; daughter, Cherlyn of Fargo; niece, Debbie Fleiner of CA, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Myrta. **In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Calvary Lutheran Foundation Fund or the Grand Forks Humane Society. FUNERAL SERVICES: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. VISITATION: One hour prior to the service at the church.
