Betty C. Majors, 88, of Grand Forks, ND died Monday, January 9, 2012 in Woodside Village, Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by her loving family. Betty Catherine Gjelsness was born June 18, 1923 in Americus Township, Reynolds, ND, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Tweten) Gjelsness. She grew up and attended school in Reynolds and graduated from high school there. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and graduated from Aakers Business College in Grand Forks, ND with a secretarial degree. She married Lawrence "Duke" McMenamy on September 6, 1942 in Moorhead, MN. Lawrence died on March 27, 1973. She married Francis Majors on July 2, 1976 in Grand Forks. Betty worked at Norby's, Vocational Rehab, St. Michael's Hospital and United Hospital. Betty loved watching softball, baseball and hockey. She also enjoyed and supported the musical activities of her entire family. Her love was her church, singing in the choir, circle and quilting. She cherished the friendships made there. She was a lifelong Sunday School teacher at University Lutheran Church and received the Golden Apple Teachers Award. She was a very special woman and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by: Husband: Francis Majors - Grand Forks Sons: Larry (Dianne) McMenamy - East Grand Forks John McMenamy - Marengo, Illinois Daughters: Marybeth Pulkrabek - Grand Forks Kathy (Brian) Johnson - Grand Forks Erin (Rick) Ziegelmann - Grand Forks Daughter-in-laws: Colleen McMenamy - Crookston Susan McMenamy - Grand Forks Step- Son: Dr. Pat (Beth) Majors - St. Louis, Missouri Step- Daughter : Ann Eppler - West Fargo Sisters: Marilyn Champeau - Naples, FL June (Malcolm) Tweten - Fargo Jean Moen - Grand Forks 18 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren; and 4 step grandchildren She was preceded in death by her, parents; first husband, Lawrence "Duke" McMenamy; sons, Patrick McMenamy; grandchildren, Cody McMenamy and Heidi Holum; step-son: Tim Majors and brother, Maurice Gjelsness.
