Gertrude Mayers, 91, Grand Forks and formerly of Thompson, ND, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in 4000 Valley Square - Woodside Village, Grand Forks. Gertrude Hancock was born to Alexander and Bessie (Melton) Hancock on June 4, 1920 in Winterville, Georgia. She was raised and educated in Winterville. She married Charles Bullock in 1939. They had two children, Peggy and Charles. On September 13, 1947 she married James Mayers in Athens, Georgia. They moved to Thompson, North Dakota where they farmed. Georgie was employed as a truck driver for the Drees, Weber, and Block Potato companies. She enjoyed crocheting, playing Bingo, Bunco, and shopping. She was also the organizer for the New Years Parties at 4000 Valley Square. She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Parker, Convers, Georgia; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Bessie Young, Warren Roberts, Georgia. She is preceded in death by both of her husbands; a son Charles; a brothers, Henry and James; and sisters, Jo, Agnes, Leigh, and Frances. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2012 in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Thompson, ND. Visitation: one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
