Margery Knopke

Margery Knopke, 88, formerly of Grand Forks, went to heaven to be with our Lord and loved ones on January 16, 2012 at the Pioneer Nursing Home in Gillette, WY. Margery Knopke was born January 22, 1923 the daughter of George & Fern (Jones) Clear in Fergus Falls, MN. She graduated from Battle Lake School in MN and went on to college for Accounting. After college she spent some time in Washington D.C. working for the FBI. Margery married William Knopke on March 10, 1950 and they lived and raised their family of 5 in Grand Forks, N.D.. Margery worked for Red River Cement and also the VFW in East Grand Forks as a bookkeeper until she retired. Margery loved to volunteer, she helped out at the Girl Scout camp near Leonard, MN for many years. She helped at the Methodist Church while living in Grand Forks, and she gave her time with the Salvation Army when Grand Forks had their major flood. She spent many summers and winters as a campground host for BLM, state parks in various places like Alaska, Arizona, Washington, North Dakota and Minnesota. When Margery went to Pioneer Manor she continued helping others by helping out there where needed. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed curling at the Grand Forks Curling Rink. She was also a member of the VFW and Legion Women's Auxiliary in East Grand Forks. Margery is survived by her sons, Patrick (Candy his companion), Mesa, AZ, Theodore (Rosemary), Seattle, WA and daughter Polly (Weymeth) Long, Gillette, WY. and 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Eileen Clear, her husband, her sons Michael and Daniel, and 2 grandsons. Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2012 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks,North Dakota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
