Edna Aarnes, 94, Grand Forks, ND died Thursday, March 22, 2012 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare of Grand Forks. Edna Asleson was born January 15, 1918 near Petersburg, ND the daughter of Thorwald and Caroline (Lybeck) Asleson. She was raised and educated at Niagara, ND. Edna married Elf Aarnes on May 19th of 1940 in Crookston, MN. They resided in Niagara then moved to Grand Forks. Edna was employed for many years for Grossman Cleaners and later C & R Cleaners where she worked until her retirement. Edna was a charter member of the EGF Eagles Auxiliary Aerie 350. She was also a member of The Royal Neighbors and the VFW Auxiliary Post 1874. She was a fan of the Twins, the Vikings and of UND Fighting Sioux hockey. Edna enjoyed spending time with family, BINGO and trips to area casinos. She will also be remembered for the jelly rolls she made for her niece Rita and others. Edna is survived by son, Wayne (Nga) Aarnes; two daughters, Charlene (Francis) Allard and Cindy (Wayne) Kuster; sister, Beverly Binkley; grandchildren, Sherry Aarnes, Sandy (Matt) Johnson, Jennifer (Jeff) Briske, James (Melody) Allard, all of Grand Forks, and Angie (fiancée Trent McCullough) Aarnes of Fargo, ND; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Garrett, and Daelia Briske; Brandon and Skyler Allard, Keyra and Erica; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elf in 1984; son, Roger in 1964; siblings and in-laws, Bertha and Percy Baldwin, Agnes and George Goodrie, Nora and Harold Wixo, Thelma and Clifford Crawford, Gerald Bud' and Frances Asleson and Frank Binkley. The family wants to thank the caring staff of Valley Eldercare for their loving support of Edna. And a special thanks to her sister, nieces, nephews and friend, Nadine, who visited her often bringing cookies, playing BINGO with her and taking her for strolls. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday in United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a 4:00 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks.
