Lydia Ruth Holien, 98, Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Thursday, March 29 at Elder Care in Grand Forks. Lydia Ruth Mayers was born to Fred and Frieda (Yearke) Mayers on April 8, 1913 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She attended school at Emerado, North Dakota. Lydia and Clifford Holden were married in 1939 and farmed near Thompson, North Dakota. Lydia sang in the choir and was very active member of Walle Lutheran Church. Clifford passed away in 1957. Lydia and John Holien were married in 1970. They became members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Thompson. Lydia was active in quilting (creating many quilts for the needy and family), donut and lefse making, and various other activities in the church. Cooking and baking was a joy that she shared with friends and family. Lydia confessed Jesus Lord of her life. John passed away in 1993. She is survived by sisters Evelyn Lowe and Betty (Joe) Lombness of Grand Forks; brothers Donald (Lorene) Mayers, Thompson, and Richard (Carol) Mayers of Lodi, California, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; brothers: Herald, Vincent, James, Herald Edwin; and sisters: Adeline, Lorraine, and Francis Celebration of Lydia's life will be held Monday, April 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Thompson, North Dakota. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be held in the church following the service. In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred given to the charity of your choice.
