Norman H. Brokke, 83, Grand Forks, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Norman was born on July 12, 1928 in Thompson, ND, the son of Sam & Thelma (Hovet) Brokke. He attended Thompson area schools then went to work on the family farm. Norman worked on the family farm until he joined the US Army in 1951 serving two tours in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Norman married Gladys McNally on October 13, 1959 in Crookston, MN. They lived in Grand Forks where Norman worked for the city of Grand Forks as a sanitation worker for 20 years before a promotion to the Street Department. He retired in 1990. Gladys passed away in 2009. Norman enjoyed playing cards and listening to polka. Gladys taught him how to dance a polka, and they would travel to different towns to listen to polka bands. He was a member of the East Grand Forks VFW #3817 and American Legion # 157. Norman is survived by his son David Brokke of Grand Forks, step-children; Ray (Cathy) Kotta of Perham, MN, Janice (Donald) Ellis, Cass Lake, MN, sister Adeline Weber, Little Falls, MN; 8 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys and his parents. Funeral Service: Saturday, April 14, at 1:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation: will be held one hour prior to the start of the service at Amundson Funeral Home. Interment: East Walle Cemetery, Rural Thompson, ND.
