Rosalie Yvonne Paur She was born in a small farm house with dirt floors and no electricity. Two weeks ago she Skyped with her great granddaughter from the lap top on her kitchen cupboard. She could drive a combine, was a crack shot with a rifle, loved Hawaii and baked the best buns and cookies. Rosalie "Rosie" Yvonne (Houska) Paur passed from this life July 11, 2012 after fully loving, learning and living for 92 years. Rosie was born June 9, 1920 near Pisek, ND as the fifth child of Matthew and Rose Houska. She grew up as a farm girl, but with a sense of independence and a love of travel. After finishing school, where she did special studies in business, she worked on the family farm and helped her sister purchase a farm of her own. She also lived and worked in Grand Forks, Cheyenne WY, and Chicago - where she supported the war effort inspecting lenses in a weapons factory. On February 22, 1944 Rosie married her Sailor, Ted Paur, at Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver, British Columbia. Ted was in the US Navy and set sail for the South Pacific just days after their wedding. Rosie lived and worked in Bremerton WA, San Francisco and San Diego waiting for the love of her life to return. After the War Rosie and Ted moved two miles east and one mile south of Gilby, North Dakota where they bought a small farm and started their new life together. Their love for each other became the foundation and security for a beautiful family of five children, 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Their home was a place of warmth, laughter, prayer, card playing, Scrabble and great food. Rosie was preceded in death by Ted, her parents, her siblings, and her son Lance. She is survived by her children Gary (Ruth) Paur and Dawn (Gene) Korynta of Gilby, Gail (Rick) Confer of Grand Forks and Joy (Jay) Ryan of Moorhead, MN, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
