Huey L. Wells, Sr. 80, Grand Forks, ND and formerly of East Grand Forks, MN died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare, Grand Forks. Huey was born September 24, 1931 in Summit, MS the son of George and Mary Wells. He was raised and educated in Summit. At the age of 15, Huey served in the National Guard before serving 8 years of active duty with the U. S. Navy, where he was a Plank Owner on the USS Saratoga. Huey joined the U. S. Air Force in 1957 and was stationed at the Minot AFB where he earned a place on the competitive shooting team and held the record for best score in the 30/06 shooting competition. Huey was discharged from active service in 1969. After leaving the Air Force, Huey lived in Minot, ND where he was a District Manager for World Book Encyclopedia. Huey later moved to Grand Forks / East Grand Forks where he started work as a security guard for 1st National Bank. He later was a sales representative for United Products, selling steel siding to customers throughout MN & ND. Later Huey started his own steel siding sales business and owned coin operated games in the area. Huey married Margie Weisser on May 13, 1961 in Great Falls, MT. She survives along with daughters, Vickie (Roger) Tessin, West Fargo, ND,Golda (Wayne) Smith , Duncan, OK and Cheryl (Jared) Heisler, Lakeville,MN; son, Hugh (Michele) Wells, Maple Grove, MN; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren; sisters, Golda Anders,Agnes Forsyth and Thelma Bailey; brothers, George Wells, Jr. and William Wells. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Grace Baptist Church of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Burial and Military Honors will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. In Lieu of flowers memorials to charity are prefered.
