Sophie Kulwicki

Sophie M. Kulwicki, 94, of Warsaw, ND, surrounded by her family, went peacefully to Heaven on September 24, 2012 at her Heritage Maples Apartment. Sophie was born September 21, 1918 near Warsaw, ND. She was the only daughter of Paul F. Rogalla and Mary (Duray) Rogalla. Sophie married Harry Kulwicki of Milwaukee, WI on November 4, 1943 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Warsaw, ND. They spent two years living in Milwaukee then returned to Warsaw in 1945 to operate the Rogalla Farm. They spent winters in Milwaukee where Harry worked as a machinist and Sophie worked at Cudihay Meat Co. and Jack Sprat Toys. They later spent winters in California. The first year, Harry worked at McDonald Douglas and Sophie at Catalina Clothing Co. After retiring from farming, they continued to spend winters in California with two of their children and several grandchildren enjoying horse races, trips to Las Vegas and the warm weather. After Harry died, Sophie lived on the farm until she lost her home in the 1997 flood. She then bought a home in Warsaw. In 2006 she moved to the Maples in East Grand Forks. Sophie was a member of the Altar Society and Sacred Heart Society. She had great devotion to The Blessed Mother and prayed the Rosary several times daily. She loved gardening, fishing, playing cards and following NASCAR races. Sophie, Harry and their four children are all members of the Polish National Alliance. Sophie is survived by her four children, James (Sharon) Kulwicki, Chula Vista, CA, and their daughters, Jeanette and Amy and granddaughters, Caitlyn, Meaghan, Christina, Christian, Jonny, Erika, Zoey and Braxton and two great grandsons; Janet (David) Ebertowski, Upland, CA and their daughters, Dawn, Sherry and Michelle and granddaughters, Taylor and Ashley; Dolores (Don) Kovar, East Grand Forks, MN and their daughters, Laura, Rachel, Janel and grandchildren, Carson, Spenser, Gabrielle, Savanna and Nathan; Joe (June) Kulwicki, Grafton, ND and their sons, Jacob, Travis, Craig and Chris and grandchildren, Ryley, Evan and Lilie. Sophie is preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her parents, Paul and Mary Rogalla and by infant sisters, Franciszka and Loretta. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, October 1, 2012 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Warsaw, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery of Warsaw.
