Evelyn Kester

Evelyn Kester, 93, of Grand Forks, ND died Thursday, October 4, 2012 in Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks. Evelyn (Strang) Kester was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada on July 20, 1919. She was educated in Dauphin and then attended Normal School in Brandon, Manitoba. She taught near Dauphin from 1939-1942. On December 31, 1942 in Montreal, she married Norman McDonald Kester, a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Upon his discharge they lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba while Norman attended Manitoba Medical College. They moved to Wawanesa, Manitoba where they lived until 1966, when Norman was injured in an air craft accident. In 1967, they moved to North Dakota where subsequently they lived in Dunseith, San Haven State Hospital, Kenmare, Cavalier, Cooperstown and Turtle Lake where Norman worked as a physician. In 1981, they moved to Grand Forks where Evelyn resided until her death. Norman passed away in May of 2000. She was a member of The United Church of Canada, the Presbyterian Church in the USA, the PEO Sisterhood, the Grand Forks City Duplicate Bridge Club and several other bridge clubs. Evelyn and Norman raised a family of six children, Norma McCormick of Winnipeg, James (Connie) of rural Bottineau, Joyce (Ladd) Depoe of Vancouver, Susan (David) Imbrock of Ottawa, Neil(Leyla) of Cairo, Egypt and Bruce (Mary) of Burlington. They also had 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her family, she is survived by her sister Jean Redston of Winnipeg and brother James Strang of Richmond, B.C. Canada. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 1:30 PM in the First Presbyterian Church, 5555 Washington Street, Grand Forks. Visitation will before one hour before the service in the church. Inurnment will take place in Canada.
