Monica A. George, 66, Gilby, North Dakota, died Monday, October 8, 2012 in Rochester Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota. Monica Ann Tisdale was born in Grafton, North Dakota on January 12, 1946 to Ray and Esther (Wibe) Tisdale. She was raised and educated at St. Thomas, North Dakota, graduating from St. Thomas High School in 1963. Monica later graduated from Mayville State Teacher's College. She taught for one year at Pine River, Minnesota, and one year at Crookston, Minnesota before becoming a high school science teacher at Midway School, teaching at Midway for 37 years before she retired in May, 2011. Monica Tisdale and Carl "Corky" George were united in marriage on July 27, 1968 at St. Thomas, North Dakota. They made their home at Gilby. Beside the love for her family, her passion was teaching science at Midway High School. Monica loved to golf and enjoyed several trips each year with her friends to different golf courses. She also enjoyed reading, flowers, and gardening. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Honeyford, North Dakota, NDEA, NEA, and the Midway Teachers Association. Monica is survived by her husband, Corky; sons, Brandy (Lindsay) George, Grand Forks, and Anthony George, Grafton, ND; her mother, Esther Tisdale, Grafton, ND; sisters, Bev (Dean) Hurtt, Hoople, ND and Diane (Grant) Brandon, Eagan, MN; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray, and a brother Jimmy. Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2012 in the Midway Public School Gymnaisum. Visitation: will be from 5 to 7 with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service and Time of Sharing Memories in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the service. Interment: St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Honeyford, North Dakota In Lieu of Flowers, the family prefers that memorials be designated to the Altru Cancer Center in Grand Forks.
