Selmer Kvande

Selmer (Sam) Kvande, 85 of Grand Forks, passed away on November 10, 2012 at Valley Elder Care in Grand Forks. Selmer was born October 11, 1927 in Alamo, North Dakota to Gunnar and Mathilda (Sandaker) Kvande. He graduated from Bremerton, WA High School in 1946, and the two year electrical course at Wahpeton State School of Science in 1949 with one year of electrical courses at NDSU. Selmer served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. He was station at Fort Louis, WA, Camp Gordon, GA, Fort Mammouth, NJ, and Germany. Selmer was a journeyman electrician for 41 years, working for various contractors, retiring in 1991. He married Cecilia (Cec) Rheault on December 31, 1955 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN. Selmer was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1426, American Legion 157, VFW 1874, DAV of Grand Forks, and Calvary Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cecilia; two daughters Diane (Richard) Hadrich of Duluth, MN, and Carol (Jon) Englund of Grand Forks; one granddaughter Josephine Hadrich of Duluth; and two special godsons Tim Larson of Shreveport, LA; Shaun Andserson, Dalton, MN; one brother Clarence, Black Eagle, MT; four sisters - Verna Nelson, Fergus Falls, MN; Helen Smith, Port Orchard, WA; Bernice (Irvin) Eide, Columbia Falls, MT; and Florence Westerso, Great Falls, MT. He was preceded in death by two infant daughters Cheryl Ann and Bonita Louise, his parents, five brothers - Alvin, Trygve, Herman, Gordon and Erling, and one sister Malinda Anderson. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in Calvary Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held 1 hour before services at Calvary Lutheran Church.
