Mavis W. Thompson, age 91, died peacefully surrounded by her family at Woodside Village, 4000 Valley Square in Grand Forks ND, on Friday, November 23, 2012. Mavis was born November 19, 1921, in Minot, ND, to Fred and Isabel (Isaacson) Hendrickson. Mavis graduated from Model High School, Minot, ND, in 1940, and Minot State Teachers College in 1944. She married Arnold Thompson on July 27, 1945, and had two children Alana and David. Mavis taught high school for one year, in Berthold, ND. She moved to Grand Forks and began a piano teaching career that lasted over 45 years. She was recognized as a gifted musician and accomplished pianist. Mavis loved to bake goodies for others, and enjoyed doing handwork. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents and still born son, Gary. She is survived by her brother, Robert Hendrickson, Grand Forks; daughter, Alana (Tony) Rustad, Grand Forks; son, David (Rhonda) Thompson, Lakeville, MN; grandchildren, Mark (Erika) Rustad, Nathan Rustad, and James Rustad, all of Grand forks; Amanda Thompson and Philip Thompson, Lakeville; two great-granddaughters, Ashlynn and Danielle Rustad, Grand Forks. MEMORIAL SERVICES: Monday, November 26, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at 4000 Valley Square, 4000 24th Avenue S. Grand Forks. VISITATION: One hour before service.
