Leslie Gerloff

September 7, 1944 — December 7, 2012

Obituary Written by Leslie Gerloff I was born September 7, 1944, in Williston, ND, to parents Roy and Norma Shervold. I attended grade schools in Minot and Tioga, graduating from High School in Williston, ND. I married my first love at the age of 18, Dennis Lee. We moved to Grand Forks in 1964 and I began work as a teller for Grand Forks Federal. We lived in the tin huts until Dennis received his degree from UND. We divorced as friends. I later married Pete Bachmeier and we were married for 4 years. By now I was working at US Bank as a teller, when I was approached to go work for Metropolitan Federal and start up their loan processing department. This was a lot of fun and I soon tried my luck as a Mortgage Loan Officer. I was one of three women in Grand Forks at that time in that line of work. I met Greg Gerloff in 1971. We were married in January 1973, and we have one son, Chad Edward Gerloff, whom has given us one beautiful granddaughter that is the joy of my life. I was involved with the Grand Forks Chamber, Grand Forks Board of Realtors and Grand Forks Builders. I was the first woman accepted into the Forx Builders Association because I was just "one of the guys." I could take a joke and I could tell a pretty good joke myself. I have been President of the ND Easter Seals Society and our local Quota International. I have been awarded Affiliate of the Year for Forx Builders and also won the ND State Affiliate of the Year from the State Builders Association. I have been the Associate of the Year for the GF Realtors twice. I have belonged to JC's, Exchange Club, SCORE, Sertoma and Quota International of Grand Forks. I liked to water ski, downhill ski, bowl, play soft ball and golf. I wished I would have played more golf earlier in life. Oh, did I mention I enjoy a good game of chance? Well I best leave that story for another time! I tell you all these things because this is who I was. I have many, many friends and pretty much have had everything I wanted. In other words, I had a good life! I was preceded in death by my mother Norma Trulson, stepfather Jacob Trulson, father Roy Shervold and one Uncle. I am survived by my husband Greg, son Chad and his wife Greta, and one beautiful granddaughter, Bailee Ann. My sisters, Ranee Smith and Rebecca Linden, her husband Robert, and two aunts, one uncle and many cousins and nieces and nephews, who have always been very special to me. I died at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, on Friday, December 7, 2012, from complications following a stem cell transplant, which was my only hope of a cure from Leukemia.
