Nels B. Gilberg, 80, Grand Forks, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Nels Borg Gilberg was born on January 9, 1932 to Albert and Sigrid (Aasven) Gilberg on a farm in Ramsey County, North Dakota. He grew up and attended school at Churchs Ferry, North Dakota, graduating from Churchs Ferry High School in 1949. Nels served in the US Army. After discharge from the military, Nels returned to North Dakota and was united in marriage to Carol Cowan on August 29, 1953. They lived in Devils Lake where Nels began employment with Western Auto. They moved to Grand Forks in 1954 where he continued his employment with Western Auto until he retired in October, 1995. He loved all sports, especially Sioux Hockey, and enjoyed spending time with his family. In retirement he enjoyed time at Cass Lake, Minnesota. He was honest and generous in all that he did. Nels is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Tom, Burnsville, MN, Ronald (LeeAnn), Bemidji, MN, Michael (Pam), Mendota Heights, MN, Curtis (Debbie), Thompson, ND, Paul, Grand Forks, and Neal (fiancée Trina Mehl), Surrey, ND; 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Bye, Fargo, ND; a brother, Clayton (Barbara), Sun City, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and one brother. Funeral Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St., Grand Forks. Visitation: 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m Saturday, December 22, 2012 in the church. Interment: Private Family Burial in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials: are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Youth Ministry, Altru Cancer Center, or the American Heart Association.
