Marlo J. Thompson, 76, Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Walhalla, ND died Thursday, December 27, 2012 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare, Grand Forks. Marlo Joyce Mathison was born June 1, 1936 in Walhalla, ND the daughter of James and Mabel (Arneson) Mathison. She attended country school at Hilltop School in Rural Walhalla through 8th grade then attended Walhalla High School. Marlo married Glenn S. Thompson on July 6, 1953 in Walhalla, ND. Together, they owned and operated several restaurants in Pembina County. They moved to Grand Forks in 1998 due to health issues. Glenn died on October 31, 2009. Marlo enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, needlepoint and reading. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and bragged about them to everyone. She will most remembered by her ability to make people laugh. Marlo is survived by her children, Gwen (Jim) Menke, Fargo, ND, Carolyn (Scott) Faehn, Fargo, ND, Marilyn Sheehan, Fargo, ND, Jackie (Rick) Bratvold, Grand Forks, Les (Dawn) Thompson, Grand Forks; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; step mother, Alma Mathison, Walhalla, ND; brothers, J. Merle (Beth) Mathison, Grand Forks, Arden (Kathleen) Mathison, Richfield, MN; sister-in-law, Connalee (Allen) Chisholm, Mesa, AZ; Aunt, Deloris Mathison, Walhalla, ND; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Marlo was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Interment for both Glenn and Marlo will be in Hillside Cemetery of Walhalla in the spring.
