David Aaserude

May 11, 1955 — January 10, 2013

David Harry Aaserude, 57, Grand Forks, died Thursday January 10, 2013 at Valley Eldercare after a year long battle with cancer. David Harry Aaserude was born May 11, 1955, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Harry E. Wosick and Florence Jean Aaserude. David traveled to many states, including Minnesota, California, and Wyoming. He returned to Grand Forks, in the early 1990's, where he established his home. David was a lover of life. He enjoyed spending time in the community. He also enjoyed spending time in his apartment, listening to music, calling or typing letters to family and friends. David enjoyed going to Perkins Restaurant on Columbia Road for coffee, ice tea, and a piece of pie. David enjoyed being a guest lecturer at UND Medical School where he shared his experience dealing with mental illness. In 2012, David was honored with a Prairie Harvest Mental Health Client of the Year Award. David enjoyed celebrating the seasons and holidays of each year. David was known for answering, "Merry Christmas this is David." David had a strong faith and often said he was filled with the joy of the Lord. David shared the following words days prior to his death. "I want everyone to understand that it is a glorious life, and be happy for me because I am going to be with the Lord". David had a positive attitude, and a kindness about him that will be greatly missed. David is survived by his sister Debra Aaserude of Kailua Kona, HI, and close friends; Joan Duckworth, Julie Hamre, and Jeannette Williams. David was preceded in death by his mother, father and a nephew, Dalton Van Cates. Memorial Services will be 11:30 AM Thursday, January 17, 2013 in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the service on Thursday. Memorials are asked to be designated to Prairie Harvest Mental Health, Grand Forks.
