Mona LaBonte

Mona M. LaBonte, 84, Grand Forks, died after a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in Valley Memorial Homes Eldercare Center. Mona Marie Baril was born to Arthur and Mayme (Clement) Baril on August 15, 1928 at Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. She was raised and educated at Red Lake Falls. She graduated from Moorhead State College with a degree in Education. She was employed as a teacher, a secretary for the School of Nursing, St. Michael's Hospital, a bookkeeper and personnel director at Sears, and also several jobs through AARP. Mona and James LaBonte were united in marriage on August 21, 1950. Mona enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, making beef jerky. She also made blankets for Project Linus. She is survived by her son, Scott LaBonte, Grand Forks; daughter, Lynn (David) Litzinger, Duluth, MN; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tim Baril, Townsend, WI. She is preceded in death by her husband, James LaBonte; a son, Thomas LaBonte; a great-grandson, Isaac March; sisters, Pauline Guillemette, Phoebe Phelps; a brother, Dale Baril; daughter-in-law, Gloria LaBonte. Memorial Services: 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks. The family prefers that memorials be designated to Altru Cancer Center or Altru Hospice.
