Violet Halvorson

March 25, 1926 — February 23, 2013

?Violet Jeanette Bjorland Halvorson was born March 25, 1926, in Hampden, North Dakota, to Peder and Clara Bjorland. She lived most of her childhood years in Hampden, and it was there she met her husband, Arvin. After their marriage on January 27, 1943, they lived in Bagley, Minnesota, where their first daughter, Myrna, was born. They moved back to Hampden for a time and Janet was born while they were there. They returned to Bagley and lived there for about another 15 years. While there, they had two sons; Vernon and Alan. At the age of 3, Vernon went home to Jesus. It's a difficult thing for a mother to bury her child. A year later the family was blessed with the birth of another son, Alan. In 1964 the family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota. During part of her years in Grand Forks, Violet worked at the Deaconess Hospital, later known as Altru, in the housekeeping department. In 1984, her beloved husband of 41 years joined their son in heaven. Violet continued her work at Altru, retiring from there in 1991, on her 65th birthday. She continued to live alone in her home at 1124 Oak St. until moving into Tufte Manor in the summer of 2010. In May of 2012, when she required more care, she moved to Elim Care in Fargo, N.Dak. to be nearer her son, Alan. On February 23 she left Elim and moved to her final home, reunited with her husband and son! Violet was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother! She had a special gift for hospitality and her family, as well as many friends, enjoyed her cooking and baking, especially her big, golden loaves of fresh bread. She had a compassionate heart and found many ways to reach out to help others. She will be greatly missed. Violet leaves behind 3 children: daughter Myrna and husband Ole Lillestolen of East Hartland, Ct; Janet Mager-Hansen of Mesa, Az and Alan Halvorson and his wife Toni of Casselton, N. Dak; 10 grandchildren and spouses: Erik (Patricia)Lillestolen, Kirk (Judy) Lillestolen, Peter (Merrillyn)Lillestolen, Jody (Michael) Pearson, Jamie Mager, Suzanne (Scott Richter) Anderson, Shawn (Kristen) Mager, Kristi (Joshua) Rivera, Randi (Justin Parker) Halvorson, and Aron Halvorson: 20 great grandchildren: 3 great great grandchildren: brother Orlen Bjorland of Jamestown N. Dak; sister-in-law Edna Halvorson of Bagley, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband Arvin, son Vernon, parents Clara and Peder Bjorland, Arvin's parents, Halvor and Anna Halvorson, two sons-in-law, Clarian Mager and Gordon Hansen, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Blessed be the memory of Violet Halvorson. ?Violet Jeanette Bjorland Halvorson was born March 25, 1926, in Hampden, North Dakota, to Peder and Clara Bjorland.
