David (Dave) D. Hanson, 61, Grygla, MN died Sunday, March 10, 2013 in Altru hospital, Grand Forks, ND. David was born October 13, 1951 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Dennis and Barbara (Brenhaug) Hanson. He was raised and attended school in Thief River Falls graduating in 1969 from Lincoln High School. David is survived by his mother; Barbara Thompson, fiancée; Shirlene Lose, sister; Kathy (Scott) Rustad, niece; Samantha Rustad, nephew; Christopher (Christina) Bacon, and many uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis D. Hanson. David served in the US Navy prior to attending Northland Community and Technical College for Architectural Drafting. His class built a home in Thief River Falls and the younger students looked up to him as a mentor. David wore many hats through multiple careers. He was a professional welder for Artic Cat, worked the oil rigs in Williston, ND, was certified by the State of Minnesota as a pest control operator employed with Lystad's Pest Control Company with a territory out of Moorhead, MN. He owned and operated the Pine Tree Overhead Door Company, LLC out of Thief River Falls, MN and as an avid outdoorsman he put his skills and talents to good use at Streiff Sporting Goods as an archery instructor. He spent the last 20+ years working for Sheehan pipeline as a coding foreman from which he retired in 2010. To say David had a passion for hunting is an understatement. He lived for bear and deer season with gun and bow. He was a Minnesota State Archery Champion and when he wasn't in the woods, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching hockey and Vikings football. He was known to be a great cook with venison as a specialty. Between hunting seasons David enjoyed restoring furniture and making new pieces as well. He had a way with people, enjoying the ability to talk to anybody as if they were old friends. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service in the church.
