Ruby Viola Gunhus

Ruby V. Gunhus, 89, Grand Forks, ND, and formerly of Fairdale and Park River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Bethany Homes in Fargo. Ruby V.(Olson) Gunhus, was born February 29 , 1924 at Badger, MN, the daughter of Louis and Lena(Saage)Olson. She graduated from Park River High School and Mayville State Teachers College. She married Arthur Gunhus on December 26, 1947 in Park River. They farmed near Fairdale until 1976. Arthur Gunhus passed away on November 28, 2000. Ruby was a school teacher her entire life, retiring after 25 years of rewarding service. She was comforted by her strong faith in God and support from her family and friends. Faith, family and education were the 3 foundations of her life. She was the last surviving member of her immediate Olson Family. Ruby was a founding member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran church in Fairdale. Her passions included handiwork, gardening, dancing, and spending quality time with her family. Ruby is survived by her three daughters, Lynda (Vern) Hammer, West Fargo, Karen(Richard)Axvig, Grand Forks, Ruth Ann(Marion)Monteleone, Denver, CO: a brother-in law, Wallace, Fargo and a sister-in law, Beatrice Roberts Fargo. Eight grandchildren, Kimberly(Todd)Bollinger, Fargo, Nathan(Leslie)Axvig, Denver, CO, Melissa(Eric) Halvorson, West Fargo, Sarah(Matt)Nelson, Savage, MN, Angela(Ben)Scoville, West Fargo, Thomas(Christina)Axvig, Cedar Rapids, IA; Joseph Monteleone, San Francisco, CA, and Jennifer Monteleone, Denver, CO, and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, George Arthur, siblings, Oliver, Julian, Merle, George, Laura (George)Roberts, Alice(Andy)Stevens, Myrtle(Knute) Trygg and numerous nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICES: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. VISITATION: One hour prior to the service at the church.
